One man from our team, Sebastian Haraha, is an ethnographer who has come on this journey to pinpoint the exact locations of the Meakambut's caves with a global positioning system.

In order for the world to learn other cultures we need ethnographers to explore the unexplored.
Blog # 4 NEWS
I read about a tribe in Papua New Guinea that is struggling to remain a tribe. When the crew first got to the tribe they saw a tribe member, who was going to die in a cave unless she got the medical care she needed as soon as possible. They told the reporting crew at first that they caught wild boar every week, while they were there no one received any meat at all. The leader then came to a reporter and told them that they haven't caught any boar in six months. While the crew went to the medical clinic to check up on the tribe member who was going to die the leader told the crew to pass on a word to the New Guinea Government "We, the Meakambut people, will give up hunting and always moving and living in the mountain caves if the government will give us a health clinic and a school, and two shovels and two axes, so we can build homes."
Interest Piece
The reason why I feel that this is news is because this was a tribe that has been around since the Spanish explorers they are slowly dwindling away and now they are at the point where they are willing to give up their culture. Missionaries came and taught them different things and the culture of the "best" civilization. There once were so many different types of people that you could go 20 miles and come across three different ones. I think it is so sad that we have basically forced this tribe of people to give up their culture so they can survive. It also shows how fast we have destroyed our earth that tribes that could have survived off the land can no longer do so.
A way we could localize this piece would be to compare them to the indigenous people of the bay area and see how they fared and what ways they could help.

Blog #3 Fly on the Wall
As I walk in I hear "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash pumping through speakers, peanut shells just thrown on the floor and a score of people rooting for the Lakers in the fourth quarter. I hand the security guard my ID and look to the right and see way more beer taps than I ever do anywhere else, anything I want I can see is on tap.
As I look around for my friends I hear groups of people talking about school, work, court, anything you could come up with you can hear about it here. As I find my friends a fight breaks out, not over anything serious but about where a couple can and can't stand. I just shake my head and move on and start talking to my friends.
As I look around and start absorbing what has become our favorite watering hole, I notice pictures of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach from the 1960s, 70s and up until the 80s. These pictures make me feel really young, noticing all the different classic cars and the streets that I know present day versus the early days. Paying even more attention I notice a bomb right next to where we sit, we have been coming here since we were all 21 and we never noticed it one time. It has many peoples names on it like Dave, Phill, and others so we decide to add to the Bomb. My friend Andrew goes first and makes his name as obnoxious as can be then I add mine and both Eric and Dave put theirs down.
We sit down in the crammed booth catching up on time, we haven't seen each other in almost a year. As our conversation begins to die down we notice the thousands of bar taps on the ceiling of the bar, Andrew the craziest of all of us decides he is going to score one for remembering our time together. I play the lookout as Eric lifts Andrew on his shoulders and tries to balance but falls over and lands on the nearby pool table. After this event we call it a night and promise to have a bon fire at the beach the next night.

Edgar Alan Poe: The Raven
The reason why "The Raven" is my favorite writing is because Poe is writing about his lost love Lenore. The way he incorporates gods and goddesses from ancient Greek and Roman times. The use of the "Plutonian Shore," and "Pallas;" these two gods: Pluto, Roman underworld god, and Pallas, another name for Athena, the protector of Athens, are opposites. The use of great detail setting the scene of the characters chamber, making it feel like as if we are in the room with him. The description of the fire in the fireplace, makes you smell the burning wood, Poe engages the reader to use all five senses.
Just in general I have always liked Poe works, I'm not quite sure why, maybe it's because most of his stories are dark and show people in their true state. The way he can manipulate the characters minds kind of shows what type of things he had to grow up with in his own mind.

Hello welcome to Anthony Ambriz's blog. You stumbled across a Marine Corps Vets page. I served from June 21, 2006 to January 6, 2012. I'm currently studying Public Relations at San Jose State University, and hopefully in time I can get my MBA. I have already accomplished one goal of mine, serving my country, and now its time for me to pursue my goal of becoming a scuba instructor, my love of the ocean and the animals that live in it need to be cared for.
In the complete future I want to be able to open a Scuba and Surf shop that entails multiple maritime activities. I want my stores name to come mind when anyone thinks whale watching or just going for a day cruise.
I have never been a big fan of reading, but when I do read I enjoy reading biographies of historical people and people who overcame diversity, it helps me learn that no matter where you come from you can still succeed.
